Why Would You Ever Want to Pay For Knitting and Crochet Patterns or Lessons When You Can Get All That for Free?
Read this:

If you are a beginner, intermediate, advanced, or a professional knitter, then the benefits of signing up for our free weekly knitting e-mail newsletter are:

• We cover hand knitting, machine knitting, and crochet.

• Each week you'll be receiving new tips and techniques.

• Daily, you'll be receiving a knitting message board digest with the latest knitting pictures, discussions and patterns.

• If you ever have a question or need help, you can always ask, and we'll cover your question in the following newsletter issue.

• Discover the fastest way to knit (and to crochet) a sock... while keeping the perfect heel and making sure the sock fits (not many knitters know this).

• Find out how to figure out how much yarn you need for a pattern if the pattern doesn't specify it (works for any project, a real life-saver sometimes).

• Learn how to pick up a dropped stitch, even from several rows below. It happens to absolutely everyone at some point. But don't worry, there exists a really simple fix.

• And if you ever run out of yarn, find out how to join any yarn in the middle of any project.

• If you can't find the pattern that you need, or if you don't know which pattern would be most appropriate for a specific project, then you can ask our other users to help you figure it out. We even have a dedicated "Pattern Requests" section on our website that's all about finding new patterns.

• The same goes for any problems and questions about specific techniques. We have experienced users who are always helping those in need with just the right advice.

• And of course, as I said it's all completely FREE!

• Let me repeat that. Since for some reason a lot of people contact us asking if the membership is really free: we are a social website for knitters and crocheters, so we don't sell anything, and we don't charge any fees. It's as simple as that.

Enter your name and e-mail address below, and you'll be instantly added to our knitting mailing list distribution. Right away, you'll get access to more knitting-related material (pictures, patterns, tips) than contained in all knitting books and magazines you could ever buy. And you'll get all that for free.

You'll be able to talk and share ideas with more knitters than you could meet if you attended all the largest trade shows. And you'll be able to do all that without leaving your house!

Don't delay! Join the best knitting and crochet community on the Internet.

Has anyone participated in one of the Craftsy Mystery Knit Alongs? I was thinking of doing that...it sounds like fun...Does anyone know what previous projects have been?

Thanks in advance :)

I purchased the August KAL. It was $30, a beautiful yarn, but I didn't care for the the frilly cowl pattern. I didn't create the cowl. I'll save the yarn for something I like more than the cowl.

Hello! I have done all the Craftsy KAL's since July, here's a list of what we've done:

June: Lacy Leaves - beaded fingerless mitts

http://www.craftsy.com/workshop/Druchunas-Lacy-Leaves/33

July: Swirling Tendrils Cowl (mentioned above - I was of the same opinion as Kendra)

http://www.craftsy.com/workshop/Wilson-Swirling-Tendrils-Cowl/36

August: Most Bespeckled Hat (I loved this one!)

http://www.craftsy.com/workshop/Tinsley-Bespeckled-Hat/35

September: Ridgewood Shawlette - I don't know if you can access the link yet since it isn't over but the designer has been amazingly helpful to everyone and it was definitely a project you could learn some great to things from.

October's is $5 less than the previous ones and I looked up the designer on Ravelry to check out some of her other things. (I also searched the yarns to get an idea for what it might be before signing up and I'm pretty sure I've found it, but I won't spoil that for you.)

In the end, each KAL is quite different. There are some technical issues with Craftsy usually and I would definitely recommend signing up quick because the closer to the 1st the longer it seems to take them to get your yarn to you, but overall I keep doing them, mostly just to get out of my comfort zone.

A much longer reply than you were looking for I'm sure but I hope it helps.

P.S. One thing that has been mentioned a few times on each of the KALs is people have been disappointed that they actually know what they are making from the beginning. It is not a mystery in the sense that you get line by line instructions and don't know what you are making until it's basically complete. On the 1st you will know exactly what the end product will be.

Thank You, ladies for the info... I enjoyed viewing the projects! So I had decided to go ahead and then to my dismay I noticed it was for USA only :(

Debbie Abrahams in the UK has a Mystery blanket project each year and her designs are so beutiful...but the cost for this is so expensive.... (over $300)

Have a Wonderful Day :)

Wow - that is an expensive KAL, sure hope it includes the yarn! Bernat also has mystery KAL, might be worth checking out their site.

I don't think this is a bad thing. It keeps you from spending a lot of time making something you won't like in the end. Like one of the posters above stated, she didn't like the pattern but loved the yarn so she didn't make the cowl and saved the yarn for something she would like to make with it.

Judging from the size of the needles and DPN's required for the October project, I am guessing it is a hat or cowl or leg warmers ... those are my bets.

Leg warmers would be fantastic! I've been wanting to make a pair but have too many WIPs already!

If anyone knows the yarn please message me. I have until tonight to purchase the knit along but can't decide if I want to do it.
Thank you :)

Okay, Now I'm intrigued, but I can't find the link to the October KAL! I've looked at the Craftsy website, saw some of the projects mentioned in this thread but nothing listed as the October KAL. I also googled it. It may be one of those days where it's right in front of me, "If it was a snake it would have bitten ya'". Can someone either pm me the link or post it? Thanks!

Hey tbforest,

Craftsy does a poor job of advertising it and making it easy to find so don't bad! Here is the link http://www.craftsy.com/deals/mystery-workshop-club-october/1142

It is in the "shop" under the knitting section as an item for sale.

All the best.

Thank you so much! Also always nice to hear it wasn't just me having a hard time with the ol' computer.

I saw that the designer is Kirsten Kapur and she has a designer page on Raverly and I like what she's designed. Hmm, decisions, decisions :-)

I did the same when I was deciding and I loved her patterns (and I had a good idea about what the yarn was going to be) so that is what made me decide. Plus, I'm a sucker for mysteries.

Also, not sure if it will still happen but I'm pretty sure that in September, the MKAL was still available for purchase after the 1st... but I wouldn't bank on that.
