I live in Canada and I was wondering if anyone knew where the best and cheapest place to buy sock yarn is? Walmart does not have any. Thanks Jodi

Do you have Joann's in Canada? They have lots of sock yarn.

I was at Joanns and Michaels yesterday looking for black sock yarn and wasn't able to find any. I know last year at this time it was hard to find the other yarn because of all the sock yarn. I guess there are trends in all things.

It is not easy to find plain colored yarn as so many prefer to knit with the patterned/striped yarn. Black is especially hard to find. You might have to go on line if you don't have a Joann store close to find what you want.

KnitPicks has a good supply of sock yarn, solids, tonal, hand painted, wool, superwash, etc. I don't know if they ship to Canada, but worth a look. I also like Webbs, They do ship to Canada

Sorry I only have a single family income and my kids want baktus scarfs for teachers for Christmas. I do have baby yarn and am thinking of that. I could never afford the prices they want. Would the baby yarn work for me ?

I am in Canada...I use Micheals( always with a coupon!) and knitpicks...$50 spent and you get free shipping...Annie's Attic, I used to buy LOVELY stuff from Craftsy...hand died goegeous stuff, but they stopped shipping to Canada ...something about International shipping laws...I cry every day! Their stuff was gorgeous!
Remember to look for online coupons too!
Hope this helps, Julie :)

Pickering isn't that far from Buffalo. Can you get together a carpool of shopping buddies and come down for the day? This weekend being Columbus day here and your Thanksgiving, JoAnn's is offering 25% off every skein of yarn, and then additional $$ off at purchase levels. You can fill up your car for $1.09/l and stock up on cheap staples like milk, eggs and cheese before you head back. The local news did a spot on the number of Canadians who come across the border to shop because of our lower prices and your stronger dollar.
PS: I got Deborah Norville Serenity sock weight for $2.99 each and got an additional $5 off my order because I spent more than $25.

All the Zellers are closing down. The have nothing but the stuff that would never sell. I was wondering if I could use baby yarn?

Good idea. Americans always have the best stuff. Lucky you

I don't see why you could not use baby yarn. After all, a scarf does not really have to conform to a dimension.

Remember, you are a fiber artist. You decide what and how your fiber creation is going to look.
