I know what it means when it says to carry yarn up the side but I'm confused when trying to actually do it. It dose'nt look right. I'm doing a simple hat with 3 color changes. It says do not cut yarn, just carry it up the side until ready to use. Help please.

When you get to the end of the row, wrap the yarn loosly around the colours you are carrying before you knit the next row. That way, they will be carried neatly up the side of the knitting. They will be sewn in when you sew the seam..I am sure there is a Youtube video to demonstrate..

So if I need to carry it a long way, I just do what you said & carry it up one row at a time?

Here's another options that works well when you are carrying multiple yarns up the side: http://www.knittingparadise.com/t-13964-1.html

Great videos. I especially like the new stitch a day ones. Thanks for asking this question and thanks for the replies. I always wondered about carrying up the side of a scarf that isn't hidden in a seam.

I'm knitting a ripple afghan, 3 color bands repeated, 14 rows per band. Do I need to carry the color up the sides of this? I can't picture doing that, though it'd be nice not to have all the knots on the side.

I would cut the yarns with long tails, and carry across the top of the next row, or do the same with the second colour on the following row. I sometimes have to take the loose end back along before doing the last few stitches, if you see what I mean and pull gently to tighten.. I have a frien who crochets into the stitches after she has finished.

Glad you asked this question. I, too, think I understand what to do then - with the work in my hands - I am not sure. Will plan to watch the video. Thanks!
