Hi everyone,

I'm doing another scarf for the doll free patt from purl bee called summer shimmer scarf. I'm stuck n the left leaning decreases.

Patt says to k 1. Ssk, yo to the end then k.1

My question, how do I yo after ssk. I can't get my yarn in front to make a yo cos I have both the needles in sort of a cross shape, left one in the two stitches and the right one in back ready to knit the stitch. The scarf is supposed to come out in a zigzag

Thanks

Ok, you have done the ssk? you will have your yarn at the back of your work, bring it towards you, between the needles, then carry on and the yarn will go over the needle to make the required stitch.

Hi, the SSk is slipping two stitches knit wise and knitting them together making 1 stitch - causing a left hand decease

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGwcYW3GG3M

the yo is to make up for the lost of one stitch....just bring the yarn over the left hand knitting needle, it doesn't matter which way you go over the knitting neddles - it is just to make a stitch. Hope this helps..lol

Hi, definitely have another problem!!!

My pattern is 4 rows of right leaning. K1, yo k2tog until last st, k 1. Purl the next row. 5 repeats. I'm using 12 st as for a doll. It's left leaning that is something wrong. I'm ok with the first row, k1' ssk, yo until the end of the row then k 1. But when I do the purl row I'm short a stit by the time I get to the last st. It seems like maybe there is a missing yo but where?

You should be able to do the SSK and YO because they are individual instructions.
Complete the SSK the bring the yarn to the Purl position the SSK again. The Yarn will lay over the needle all on its own.
Of course, you would get exactly the same effect if you K2TOG TBL, YO or work SL1, K1, PSSO, YO.
They are both left leaning.
Whichever method you choose, just make sure you do the same thing for the whole piece.
Have fun.

If you stretch your knitting on the lace row out along the needle you'll find it easier not to lose the yo. They sometimes become hung up over the last stitch and look like you've lost them. Stretching the stitches out will help the stitches free themselves. This can also make it easier to see when you've forgotten to do a yo in the previous row. Fixing that is as easy as picking up the stitch in between the two stitches where you forgot it and knitting it.
