I come across this pattern from a book that a friend gave to me. Unfortunately it is Copyright - but you may be able to work out, how to make this necklace (would be idea for a child). You could make the beads in any colour you liked. The beads should have fibre filler in them, but I didn't have any....I can't give you the pattern - but if you are interested, you can PM me, and I can give you some basics....

There are several there I can use as well.
I had not thought about jewelry until now.
I think the children will love them. I am also making small dolls as well.

That is great, and as you said great for little girls. I wonder what would happen if "beads" were made of wool and felted. It would be another texture.
