At the instigation of forum member 5mmdpns, I here present my only effort at pattern writing.

No, I haven't any photo to go with it. Let it be a surprise!

I've knit it twice so far. Once from a single strand, and once using a different colour for each square.

Have fun!

Hi Jessica-Jean, I just downloaded your pattern and with your permission I will relabel this for my own personal files as "Jessica-Jeans Mitred Baby Hat. If it isnt ok with you, let me know.
Like I told you in a pm, I dont have a single inspiration of creating something when it comes to knitting except the dishcloth. I just cast on stitches and planned to do a simple garter stitch until my Mom told me that I had to do a pattern in it. So every few rows I through in some stocking stitch rows. It washes dishes just fine. I find that I do need a written pattern in front of me to start knitting on something. The socks really arent complicated and I just use my books to check the number of cast on stitches for my yarn weight. Having said that, I still need to follow a written direction every time I kitchener the toe closed.
My creativity in the knitting department is coming up with my own stitch mistakes that require the frogs to come out. Oh yeah, I choose my own colors (if that counts).

Some people are gifted and can vision the number of stitches and when and how to make stitch patterns. Elizabeth Zimmermann was one such person. I would have loved to spend some time with her. She claimed she only wanted to do something easier and so she came up with the Baby Surprise Jacket pattern! Her daughter Meg Swanson also has the gift of writing patterns and has come up with beautiful cardigans and sweaters.
:) How fortunite for those like me who simply cant come up with their own pattern but must find and get a pattern at the store.

J-J....thanks so much... am going to play with this tonight instead of going back to work after taking the afternoon to tutor a continental-knitter-wannabe... thanks for posting for us...

ps.....if anyone else had trouble opening the download (i don't have word pad and ms word would not open it)... i tried Googledocs and it did upload and open properly after downloading to my hard drive....

Sorry. There are so many incompatible versions of MS Word. If I weren't indebted to MicroSoft for cheap computing and the Internet, I'd wish a pox upon it!
I had meant to add a pdf version before, but himself came in, and my train of thought/action was derailled. pdf attached.

I love your attitude! It sure beats that of the person who sent me a PM saying I shouldn't respond to another person publicly, especially since said person had hi-jacked a post belonging to her.

Who knew that posts or topics/threads belonged to anyone at all??? Once it's out there in cyberspace, it becomes public property - at least that's what I thought! Still think so, too. :-D

I did a baby sweater couple years ago for my 2 yr old gd. Let me try to find and upload a photo of it. There is one on my facebook page
That's beautiful! My kids never had anything that lovely, not while they were kids anyway. ;)

The miters were fun to do but after about a dozen of them it became a challenge to create different squares. Most of them were started off a previous one but there were columns that had to begin anew. The triangle pieces were done after the skirt was completed. That sweater took as long to do as a simple one for an adult. But everyone who saw it commented. It was a coat of many colors for sure.
