I love doing KALs, and I love doing hats, why not combine them? I belong to a motorcycle club and every year for Christmas we raise funds and participate in the adopt a family program for those who are less fortunate. For most families, their "wish list" has some form of clothing on it, especially winter clothing. Here in Vermont we are used to some pretty harsh winters, and lately it has been windy, although we have no snow on the ground!
I thought it would be fun to try to knit 14 hats between now and this time next year, and I will donate them to the adopt a family program here in Vermont. I was hoping I could get some others in on this to just KAL, donate them around your own area, or even send them here for us to donate along with all the other things we do every year. If nothing else, I would just like to see the progress everyone makes with me as I try to go from plain hats to some that are a bit more challenging.
I will post a free ravelry pattern about every 3 weeks, for those who would like to try and keep up with me! I will post the first pattern tomorrow (after I decide which I want to try first!) and I will keep them rather simple at first, and then get a bit harder as we go on. For anyone that would like to donate their projects to our area, PM me and I will give you the address of the club for your donations.
I have received a few messages from people that can't do hats, but maybe 14 items in general and wanting to know if they have to do my patterns, etc. I don't really care what pattern you knit from, I just wanted to have more or less a "hat thread" that we could all post pictures and share our fave patterns and advice. I have found some patterns that I want to do but I'm sure I will need the advice of those more experienced knitters here!
I have picked the first pattern that I am going to start at work tonight, which really has a few different patterns in it, so there should be a litle something for everyone! I'm starting with just a baby hat, since we found out we are having our first grandbaby next July! (I can't believe it, I'm not even going to be 30 yet! It's my step-daughter, my husband is 15 years older than I am.) Plus this pattern is labeled as hats for charity, so I thought it would go well with the general theme I am going with! I just finished up another one, for my hubby! Here is the pattern I used:http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/christians-hat
