I'm hoping someone has made this shawl and can answer some of the questions that I have. I'm not sure where the shawl starts--at the neck or at the bottom in the back? I also don't know where the pattern repeats are unless they are the shaded areas on the charts?
The shawl starts at the centre of the back neck and the chart is a half chart.
So following the first instructions of cast on 4 (these are your border stitches) and garter stitch 2 rows.
Then you start the chart at row 1: k2 (border sts not on chart) YO, YO again for second half of shawl, k2 (border sts not on chart).
Row 2: K2, P2 (you will actually need to PFB in the double YO), K2.
Row 3: k2 (border sts not on chart), *YO, K1, YO*, repeat **, k2 (border sts not on chart).
Row 4: K2, p6, k2. (10sts)
Carry on following the chart this way.
The shaded area is one complete leaf - it will all make more sense when you have completed the first run through of the chart.
I don't agree with where she says the yellow column is the central column - the central column will run up on the diagonal immediately to the left of the charted stitches.
I have made it and found written instruction which were very clear , cannot remember where but I will check and let you know it was a link from rivarly site ! I am familiar with charts but in this pattern found it much easier with the written version Kate
If you go on to the pattern on Rivarly and click FAQ , click on unchart colour coded by Gurnard it is either 1st or 2nd on list , very clear instructions , it was a breeze! Kate
Here are some of my notes from this shawl. So many people have written about this pattern that is hard to get through all the recommendations.
I have found some very helpful things.

The most comprehensive place for help is
I had noted that if I made it again I would
1. use sl1k2tog psso for point on leaves
2. use single yarn over where it calls for 2. I think hole will be smaller in centre. Just p into front & back.
It's a beautiful shawl. Good luck.
The shawl starts at the nape of the neck and works down to the waist.
First, you will have one leaf on either side of the center line.
Then on the next tier you will have 2 leaves on either side of the center line, and so on.
Remember that you have to doe the chart twice on each tier... once on either side of the center line...here is the "repeats chart" that I used:
(Hope this helps! Kindest Regards, OMgirl)
Thanks everyone. I will pick it up again and try again. Having the repeat lines helps. The pictures help a lot and it helps to know which direction I am going. I did look on Ravelry. Lots of people have made it.
I picked it up again and I'm on the second repeat. All is going well. Thanks so much everyone!! I think it is a beautiful shawl and well worth the effort. I couldn't have done it without your help.
