I am wanting to knit a pair of socks posted by zoomyummy.com but she uses worsted weight yarn and size 8 US knitting needles. For sock weight yarn and size 4 US needles could I double it or is there some way to figure this out? Thanks for any help.

You do need to do a swatch... from other things I have read you can use 3 strands of fingering to result in worsted weight
But you could do 2 strands and a smaller needle as you noted.
She offers a schematic and measurements to take... if you do a swatch and some figuring you should be able to follow this pattern

Find a different pattern using yarn and needles suitable for what you have.

Thank you for your replies. I want to make socks that aren't too bulky so wanted to use sock yarn instead.

So are you intent on using this pattern or are you willing to consider another?
If the fact that they are worked flat is what appeals... there are other sock patterns knitted flat in sock yarn....

I think I will try to find another flat sock pattern. That was what I thought would be fun to try.
