I'm not 100 % ready yet but I was wondering if any of you have a simple cardigan sweater pattern that you can share for a person's first attempt? I'm still working on learning cables but would like to look some patterns over for the sweaters.

Thank you,
Georgia

I second the "Knitting Pure and Simple" patterns. They aren't free, but she really explains everything in detail which is great!

That is what is so great about Ravelry, you can search for something easy, you can put what yarn you want, how much yarn you have, lots of things to narrow down the results. You can even go into fabric characteristics and add cables or lace, whatever you want.

Oh yeah!.....Stupidly I clicked on the link and it is now two hours later--that is what happens when I go into Ravelry!! I downloaded about 20 patterns I didn't have before and put one in my shopping basket!

Check out the Yankee Knitter and Knitting Pure and Simple patterns. I found these manageable when I was learning to knit ten years ago.
I used the

knitting pure and simple top down sweater pattern#201

but didn't put a zipper in. I knit bands instead. It is a very good basic pattern. Follow it. I found it very useful and I do a lot of my own design sweaters using the basic idea of that pattern. You can add a pattern, you can use your stash and make stripes, and on and on. I hope this helps. I still use the same basic pattern all the time and then do different things with it.

They have some good pullover patterns too. I have had mine for about l0 years and just use the numbers for the castons now. Give it a try. I am sure there are newer ones.

I recommend a top down sweater pull-over or even a cardigan because with top down when you get to the bottom you are done especially if you get in the good habit of weaving in ends as you go.
Classic styles are always best and never go out of fashion for any age!

I would recommend Red Heart free pattern LW4109 on their website. I don't know why it's rated Intermediate because it's pretty easy. Nice basic sweater.
Mollie, could you give any other information to get to this sweater? The link takes me to a large number of sweaters and I'm not sure which is the one you're recommending.
Thanks,
Troy

Troy, I found the pattern by putting LW4109 into the search box at top right of the Red Heart page. After the search, this pattern was in the top row far left, if I recall correctly, it might have been yellow or orange
