I want to crochet a blanket like a Grannie Square but as if you had folded it in half then half again. I hope you can understand what I want.

This is what your question brought to my mind.... it's a potholder/trivet but the technique could be done for a blanket....

What a great idea for sock yarn scraps! The double thickness would be warm without a lot of weight.
