I'm working on this baby blanket for the Debbie Macomber/Project Linus Mother's Day charity knitting. In all the years I've been knitting I have never twisted the cable on the first cable row. By the time the pleats started to form on the border I was too far in to frog the blanket. The effect sort of grows on you but I don't think I'll do it again.

Yarn is Vanna's baby yarn in bluebell...blue with a slight lavender tint to it.

I've seen many patterns that have you start the cable cross on the first row - hats, sweaters, socks.... I haven't seen the result "pleat" as much as yours does, but usually it comes after a rib section, rather than garter... That may be what is causing the difference.

The border isn't garter stitch; it's seed stitch which I chose to do rather than the garter stitch.

Apologies - it was difficult to see that part on my screen.... Still, though, the seed stitch is a "flat" fabric like garter, but the rib will naturally have a ripply texture, so that might be the difference still in the "pleats" effect.

Thank you for showing us this and the effect of twisting on the first row. Nice work.

Beautiful Baby Blanket, love the cables,( scares me try to do them and always screw them up ). I'm a good knitter and have been for years, cables just scare me , good job love the colour. Welcome from Nova Scotia Canada

No need to apologize...no offense taken. I appreciate your take on the pleating effect.

I think its an adorable blanket and I love the pleats whether they are supposed to be there or not. Makes it a very unique work. :D

Looks fine to me. I'm sure the baby who is wrapped in it will be blessed and his/her Mom will be very thankful.
