After reading all the suggestions today and messaging alan55 ,I got busy and ... here they are !
They are very comfortable and surprisingly quick to knit . Yes the are warm as well .The only thing I will still do is to attach a rib on the bottom so that it will not curl up. I added the different wool at the bottom as I wanted the extra length and had run out of the grey wool.
The legwarmers will be very useful in a few days when a few MK girls meet at a Retreat for a WHOLE week to just knit and natter and have our meals cooked for us !!! It's winter time now and it's quite cold in Adelaide , Ose
Started with rib, transfered sts.and knitted with 2 eedles in work and 1 out.

Wow! Quick worker! Just in time, too, for the worst of your winter. Hope you don't need them too much.

oh, gosh.....sure wish you could share a bit of your cold temperatures here--I just told my husband that bears hibernate in the winter--I'd choose to hibernate in the summer!! Your leg warmers are super great--and as a former ballet dancer, they are very similar to the many pairs I wore during my dancing days!! Even in the non-air-conditioned studios in Chicago/New York where I studied!! Have fun

Hah! There's a word for that - aestivate - and I am right there with you. Hello from the N GA mountains, where it is in the mid-80s, but still 10 degrees cooler than metro Atlanta.

A row of single crochet around the bottom - should help them NOT to curl up. Brrrrrrrrrrr....be glad when this winter is over.
