I just received a package from Knit Picks with four beautiful skeins of purple tonal yarn and another of an oatmeal color and I can't for the life of me remember what I intended to knit with it! Does anyone else do this? Since it's purple it's probably something for my daughter, but just what I don't know. Obviously losing my mind!

I know!! They really should put a note in with it to remind us ;)

Sorry, I am laughing. At least you did this with yarn and not medications. :)

I try to make notes to myself when I order... but I don't always do it.
It does help when I do that....

a few years ago we had a dog that required medication. One morning I got the dog med. out, might as well get mine too while I am there. Yup, I look at the other drug after taking mine and I took the dog medicine. I lived to tell about it.

At least it sounds like pretty yarn. Now you can decide all over again! Look through your patterns and find one your like for the yarns! I have done the same. I seem to find multiple skeins of yarn carefully set aside and cannot recall what I planned to make with it.

Me too! I keep a journal of projects...when they were started and finished, pattern, needles, yarn, type & amount. In the back of the book I note yarn purchases, how much, cost, color, type, and what they were for. It may seem obsessive to some, but I've learned the hard way that I cannot trust my memory for these details. Even so, I still must remember to write it down!

I think I planned on making the Hitofude cardigan for my daughter and the amount of yarn would be right for that. However, since I bought the pattern and have looked it over, I think I'm changing my mind, it sounds incredibly complicated, not the lace pattern, but just the way it's put together. I'll look again, but I might have to make something else out of it. At least I remembered, so that's a step forward!

I've considered that one too... it is pretty and there have been many made
Here's a search on Ravelry knitted adult women's cardigans using about that much fingering yarn: (several pages worth!)

I ordered two skeins from Amazon and don't have any idea why. They're pretty though and I'll use them somehow! 😀

I have 10 skeins of cotton yarn that I have no idea when, where or why I bought it. It's discontinued now. Perhaps I'll offer it for sale.

I have a notebook of all the yarns I have. And I have a book I keep a record of what yarn, pattern, who for, when I started and when I finish. And a picture of the finished item.

Have done the same thing here! I agree just look through your patterns perhaps you will have that light bulb moment for the pattern you had in mind. That is why I have 1 folder if I order yarn for a specific pattern, the intention is to put the pattern in this folder and when the yarn comes stays in the box with the pattern or slip into a plastic bag with the pattern if working soon.
Find what works for you! maybe a notepad note on your desktop until the yarn arrives will help.
