Another knit for GS due in September. I wanted easy care for my lovely and busy DIL. There has recently been a few posts about knitting with acrylics. I knit with both natural and synthetic fibers. The choice depends on many factors. There are times when acrylic fits the bill perfectly.

There has also been many discussions on blocking acrylics. I recently watched a video by Arne and Carlos after seeing the link posted here on KP concerning blocking with your steam iron. I am fairly certain Arne and Carlos were using wool for their demonstration. I decided to give it a go with this acrylic blanket. The method used a damp towel. You place the damp towel over your knitted piece. Block with the steam of your iron right over the damp towel. I think the method worked well for this project. The edges of the Heartfelt blanket were curling. After blocking the edges are laying flat. The lace hearts are opened nicely and my stitches look smooth.

I knit the blanket using Pound of Love. I used almost all of the 1020 yards and a size 7 needle. The pattern is free on the Willow yarn site.

So pretty! Personally I think you can't beat acrylic for baby stuff. Wash and dry, doesn't stain or fade, keeps its shape wash after wash and gets softer every time. Cotton is nice, but not as durable or forgiving. And it is probably just my warm weather bias, but I don't get wool for babies at all. Superwash for outerwear maybe.

There are times when acrylics are perfect. This blanket will be a great carriage blanket when I take the grands for a walk.

Beautiful blanket. You do such lovely work. Glad to see your comment about acrylics. I agree with you 100%. How wonderful that your son is having a boy, and now you will have one of each. Great, isn't it, Grandma!

It looks wonderful! I much prefer acrylic or acrylic blends for blankets, whether for babies or adults. I watched the video on blocking as well and wondered how well it would work on acrylic yarn. Thanks for testing it out.

Beautiful knitting and pretty pattern. I prefer acrylics for baby shawls and blankets. It's so much easier on busy mums when they can just throw the item in the washing machine. Once it's blocked it's blocked and no extra faffing about for the mum.

That is a lovely blanket and I'm sure DIL will like the easy care. I just finished one with Pound of Love also and wound the rest. Almost 1/2 pound left.
