I am volunteering at our Coommunity Service Center and have found a bag of yarn that is on the 'free' table. It is Pinguin Mystere'. There are at least 10 skeins (50 grams/ 1 3/4 oz) 78% acrylic 19% wool 3% polyamid. It is kinda fuzzy. Anyone ever used this yarn before? Any ideas? Its 10+ balls for free! And I don't want to pass it up if its good yarn, but don't want to take it if I can't use it as I live in a small house and already have a pretty good stash lol

Did you try finding the yarn on Ravelry? If you click on "yarn" and put the description in, you might find information on it. I have done this with "mystery" yarn that is very old and I got the information I needed.

I love Pingoin yarns. My experience is that they knit up beautifully. Hard to find.

Yes, Thank you so much. After I posted I looked again and realized it was spelled incorrectly. Thank you for pointing that out :-)

Wow! I love this forum - I learn so much. I sooo appreciate all the lovely responses to my questions. After I posted about "Penguin" yarn, I looked at it again and realized that it should have been Pengouin yarn - and somewhere back in my memory there was a thought that maybe I had used this before.

Anyway, the "Community Service Center" is part of the Food Bank in our town and we also have (donated) clothing that we give away. Referrals come from "Christian Services" in town which is the clearing house for organizing help for those in need.

While I was contemplating whether or not I was going to be able to use this yarn, the guys helping put the table it was on outside so we could get rid of some of the "free" stuff. :-) Well, we had a food order to put up and then a couple with an older lady came to pick up their orders. When I got done, I headed out to the table and saw the lady walking to the car with "my" yarn! (lol)

I watched her and smiled to myself thinking about the fun she was going to have knitting something with that soft red/black yarn and how she was going to be telling her friends about this great free yarn she found!(Like the excitement I read about on KP!) Anyway, she probably couldn't afford to buy much yarn, so I'm glad that I didn't take it. It still gives me a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about it. :-) Right now, I can afford to buy yarn, and have many skeins waiting for the projects I have planned.

Thank you again for all your responses to my question. Now I have an idea how to search for mystery yarn! You all are so thoughtful.
