HI i purchased a brother KH830 several years ago and didnt get time to use it, now the kids have grown up i have time to spare.. query i have is can i use dk yarn on this machine and if so what tension should i be looking at? if someone could help me i would really appreciate any advice. regards liz..
Here's a chart that you'll find very helpful for the gauge of yarn to use, the heaviest I've found that knits nice is about 1300 ypp at the highest tension setting. I have knit yarn using every other needle or 1x1 with the ribber will knit a heavier yarn.http://www.yarns-and.com/yarnto.htm
A soft, loosely spun DK will knit on the machine at tension 9 or above, stocking stitch and some very basic tuck or, better, slip. You would have to adjust the yarn mast tension. Heavier DK can knit using every other needle - acceptable for a work-a-day sweater, for example. It can be hard work, though, and the yarn needs to be well waxed. Where DK works extremely well is as a weaving yarn with a 2ply or 3ply base - makes warm and attractive jackets.
thanks ever so much for the info, i have some spare baby dk and was thinking of using it up on something possibly a blanket..:)
I have a Brother 864 machine and the only way I can use Double knit Wool?yarn is to use every other needle,You then Have to rib by hand,
4ply is perfect, as Mary above said alternate needles if you are using DK, but you may be lucky with the baby DK
I have used DK on Tension 10.
I just finished the sweetest baby sweater on the same machine as you have. I used Bernat Softee which is a dk sport wt , tension 9. Came out soft and silky. WILL use it again.
