Yeah; he's a rescue so a bit clingy, and his old friend went off to the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 16 around Easter so he is now EXTRA clingy. His new friend is being spayed and we can pick her up from the rescue soon. :). Can't wait; I shut him out of the room when I'm on the machine as he seems to think that tension masts and yarn cones are lovely new toys I have bought for him. So he meows outside the door until I come out. :(

We told the man at the rescue that we don't mind if she's a lap cat or not as she's not for us, she's for our cat. :D

Looks great! I have a machine, but I've never used it. I tried at one point, but got overwhelmed. Maybe I should get it out again, especially if it can make something a wonderful as your hat! Good job.

Oh yes, the fabric may come out the same, but the way of doing is a totally different kettle of fish entirely. I was lucky to have the person I borrowed the 323 off give me a few hours of basic training, picked the brains of a knitting club, and then the 360 came with all the manuals.

I did have a horrible mess when I tried to use the ribber to do a tube though. I was using quite breaky 3 ply yarn though, so I will try again with something a bit more resilient as waste yarn. Casting on is my main issue at the moment. If all the stitches behave, the rest is fine.

I've been lucky to find a club nearby with people that are just like me really - hand knitters who also want to use machines to speed up the process of making things for people. I will always love hand knitting lace, socks etc. I wish I had the free time to hand knit fun jumpers for my nephew and gloves for my Dad and socks for my husband and Christmas stockings for everyone - but I just don't.

There are some people who really want something hand knitted, and there are some that are just keen to have a particular shape and pattern and colour, and don't mind it being "hand framed" as they get it quicker. :)

So it's good to be able to do both.

I would love to do both.. its like you said sometimes you just want to make something nice and have it not take forever and other things you really want to hand knit. I have so many things I want to do but to do them all by hand I'm sure I'll never get to it all.. mostly because I am always finding new patterns I want to do.. :)...
What kind of a knitting machine do you have that you use a card to make the design??

It's a Knitmaster 360 - it has a 24 stitch punchcard system, so you can put two colours in the carriage and put in a punchcard with the Fair Isle and it sorts that all out for you.
