Thought I'd just quickly (😁) pop in today to update my drivers license since losing 100#s....ya know, weight, height and photo. Got in line, got my number and took a seat. 30 minutes fly by and called to window #7 where I turned in my updated form and paid $10! Waited again to be called to the camera station and wait some more for the license to be printed. Out the door, on our way only to notice I'm an "M"‼️ Back inside the camera tech checks with #7 and we're told I've been M since 2008 when I moved to SC and got my license...guess I never looked 😳 Now I'm told I have to bring back my birth certificate...NOT HAPPENING...DMV made the mistake, DMV fix it. They even checked their computer and could see my last 2 applications stated "F". This manager type called his manager and they managed to type F in the sex box, took another photo and I was on my way.
They have a delightful logo sign with state of SC and around the state it says "courtesy, committed and competent". Wonder when that starts?
I'm done....😛

Are you annoyed because of the wait, the error, the fact that they eventually did fix it, or that you didn't notice the error the first time 7 years ago?

Dealing with any government office is an exercise in patience. :)

I had the same problem several years ago. I had recently renewed my licence. I was at the grocery store (this in the days when they wrote everything on your license on the back of your check) and the clerk pointed out that my license said I was Male. I hadn't noticed. I thought it was one of the better license pics of me, too. LOL I went home, called the DMV & was told it would be $7 for a new license. I told them I didn't mistype it & I wasn't going to pay to have it retyped. They told me if I got stopped it would be a fine b/c the info on the license is wrong & I told them I'd deal with that when it happened. I carried it for years. Some clerks noticed, some didn't & just wrote it all down. The ones that did would say, It says you're male? I would just say, "Yes, it does." No explanation. I loved the looks I would get. Brightened my day. I never got stopped by the police & didn't relinquish it when I had my next renewal. I still have it.

As I can see it was a nuisance, but I am sure it must have been a typo. At least they fixed it without your having to bring in your birth certificate.

While it was rough to live through, think of all the fun you can have with this in future years!
