Someone mentioned on another thread that she often got stuff she needed for knitting from the hardware store. I have lost count of the things I got from the dollar store or hardware store to use for knitting supplies. Dowels to make looooong cro-hooks, nifty little long boxes to protect my wooden needles [they hate to be sat upon], and, just yesterday some soft tubing in various diameters for safely stowing double pointers or cuculars.
What's your niftiest adaptation? Ooh, and Lee Valley's nylon twine gives miles of ravel cord.
Ok, so I sinned. I borrowed a chair back prayer book holder from a local church and copied the pattern to make a cover for every chair I use at my various craft tables, sewing machine, serger, knitting machines. They are roomy enough to hold the manuals, patterns, some rulers., long needles, etc. I suppose I could also use them for pins and needles, perhaps by attaching a pad for a pincushion, too. Keeps my important stuff close, but not in the way. Must remember to return the original soon. Remind me, please, willya ?
I had an old wooden yard stick which was cracked, si put some glue on the crack, then covered it with fabric, decorated it, added some small hair clips to hold my collection of fixed circular needles.

Clever! Love those useful little clips.
