Hi All! I am a pretty rank beginner - just lots of dish rags with basic stitches so far. I am working on my first hat in the round and am very confused by the nomenclature. It is a Leisure Arts pattern and I can't figure out what to do. The step is *YO, slip 1, P2 tog ( YO and slipped st); repeat from * around. I'm fine up to the parenthesis but am not sure what they want me to do. Work a Y O and slipped st into the same st? Thanks for your help. Can't find anything helpful on their site or on pattern reading sites.

this is a brioche stitch

you do the yarn over which mean bring the yarn forward and around the top of the needle to the back again then you slip the next stitch purl wise

Isn't the p2 included in the repeat?

Think the P2 tog means you will purl the YO & the slip stitch together to make one stitch.

Can you give us the pattern name? Also, have you gone on to Ravelry yet? It's a great spot for patterns, both free and for sale.

Okay, now that I look at the pattern again, the confusing instructions were in line two of the pattern. The first line was (K1,YO, slip 1) around: 135 sts.. I'm beginning to think the info in the parenthesis that I was confused about was not pattern, but referring to the fact that you would be perling together the YO and slipped stitched from the previous row. Does that make sense? Do "they" ever give you notes in parenthesis in a pattern? Thanks for your help. I'm looking up Brioche now. (-:

Wow! London is a long way from Oklahoma. My friend's mother-in-law is from London and she was here for Christmas. She taught me how to knit a dish rag starting from the corner and increasing. I was impressed. (-:
