My Michael's in Bradenton, FL has one side of an entire aisle filled with the "new" Loops and Threads Ginormous yarn for $5.99. There are ONLY 97 yards in what looks like a BIG skein because there is a large cardboard CORE in the center. IMHO it is only good for arm knitting. It is not tightly spun and difficult to knit with, even with a blunt size 15 recommended needle. The aisle is half the length of the store away from the regular yarns. Purchase with caution.

They are likely not the manufacturer and they train very little in the store on all aspects so it is buyer beware there as every place anymore. Doesn't sound to me as it is a deliberate move to cover up anything?

97 yards is the clue here. Is this advertising a large ball or a large bulky yarn?

They must of had a lot of complaints/returns. Nice that they posted that to avoid any more problems (I hope).

What did they post? I am lost. I thought it was ChocPieMom who was warning us - not Michael's. Confused ~~~~

Both. Unless you read the 97 yards on the label, which I didn't, it looks like a Pound of Love skein in size 6 yarn. It wasn't until I was searching inside the skein to bring out the start of the yarn that I found the large core.

It is me, ChocPieMom, warning you to not fall for Michael's deceptive packaging. I thought the beautiful colors would make terrific knitting bags for Christmas presents next year. I think this is a new offering of the Size 6 large diameter size yarn for the Michael's Loops and Threads brand. It surely would be TOO heavy for use even for arm knitting anything but accessories in FL. Michael's must be appealing to our heavy concentration of snow birds this time of year.

The web site says "This super bulky yarn is ideal for creating wonderfully thick accessories and home d├ęcor projects with a lightly twisted textured look. This soft, acrylic yarn knits and crochets smoothly and quickly."

Normally I don't have to look at my knitting constantly. With this yarn I had to constantly watch in order to not pick up strands from the stitch I was knitting into because it is so loosely twisted.

Not at Michaels but ordering online I've received what I thought was a handsome amount of yarn to discover a cone in the middle. What a deception!

I really do not understand the complaint. The ball is marked 97 yds. As buyers, it is our responsibility to read what we are purchasing. 97 yards of bulky is going to look a lot different than 97 yds. of fingering.

That is very expensive yarn for only 97 yards! Hope people pay attention like they should. Michaels has gotten to the point where practically all their yarn is their own brand. I don't even visit there any more.

I'd seen the newer yarn at Michaels a few wks ago. Been thinking lately that it might work out for a triloom shawl. However, I also expect the lack of twist/roving look will snag on my triloom's nails, especially when taking it off when complete. Just giving it more thought. Appreciate your comments on it.

edit: PS - Looked it up again and Loops & Threads Chunky is a #6 (super bulky) and band says 27 yds. NOT same one you are talking about since yours is more yds. http://www.michaels.com/chunky-yarn/M10377546.html?dwvar_M10377546_color=White
