Row 2: (K1, inc1) x4, (inc1, K1) x4 = 24 sts
Inc 1=KFB

K1,KFB=3; so 3x4=12
KFB, K1=3; so 3x4=12
12+12=24
.................................
Row 5 (K2, inc1) x4, (inc1, K2) x4 = 32 sts

K2,KFB=4; so 4x4=16
KFB,K2=4; so 4x4=16
16+16=32

Your increasing 4 in the first set of bracket and 4 in the second set of brackets = 8+16=24

It depends on how you do your increases. What increase does your pattern give? It should be in the list of abbreviations. Inc = ?

Increases used in patterns
When just 'inc' shows in a pattern=KFB
......................................................

Another increase is a YO - if that were to be used it would have stated so.
IE: Row 2: (K1, YO) x4, (YO, K1) x4 = 24 sts.

Another increase are the M1's -- again it would have stated so.
IE: Row 2: (K1, M1) x4, (M1, K1) x4 = 24 sts.

Row 2, you are inc 8 sts. 8+ 16 = 24, and then inc 8 sts again, on row 5. 8+ 24= 32. Row2, k1,inc,k1 inc, k1 inc, k1 inc, that is inc 4 sts. then inc,k1, inc k1, inc k1, inc k1. That is an inc of another 4 sts. Row 5 is executed in the same manner. You probably missed the fact that in the middle of each of the inc rows, two increases are next to one another. You also might check what kind of an increase they want you to use.

Row 2: (K1, inc1) x4, (inc1, K1) x4 = 24 sts ===
K1,KFB - K1,KFB - K1,KFB - K1,KFB
KFB,K1 - KFB,K1 - KFB,K1 - KFB,K1

*K1, KFB* 4 times, then *KFB, K1* 4 times. 24 stitches.
Have fun.

Just saw this question about my pattern...

Thanks KPers for answering for me! :D

Yes, it looks like you missed the stitch explanation on page 2:

Stitch Explanation:
• Inc = (Knit into the front and back of the stitch…1 stitch increased)

Glad you've cleared your confusion. If you have any other questions as you knit along, you could contact me directly via the email at the bottom of the pattern.
Happy Knitting!
Lorraine
