I would like to know what knitters of hats use. Double point or circular. If circular what size please.

Hats are a good opportunity to use Magic Loop with a 32" or 40" circular - can stay on the same needle all the way to the top of the hat.

I use circular needles with the magic loop method. 32" long, or you can also use 2 shorter circular needles. As for size of tips what the pattern calls for, or my swatch shows me.

I use 16' circular until the end and then dbl point sometimes, other times traveling loop at the end. :-)

I use 12" for babies and small child hats and 16" for larger children and adults. Then 5 double points when decreasing for the top. I don't care for Magic Loop. To each his/her own.

If I hand knit a hat I do it with 5 dpns... you have to move to dpns when you get close to the top anyway...

Not with magic loop or when you use 2 circulars.

You made my day! Someone else that doesn't like magic loop, I thought I was the only one. We are a rare breed.

For some of us the shorter needles are difficult to use. The needles are small, and if you have hand problems that just adds to them in my opinion.

If working only one hat at a time, I use either a 32" or 40" circular needle... when I am working 2 same size hats at the same time I use a 50" circular needle.

It depends on the amount of stitches I cast on but usually use a 16 needle & when the stitches get to small I switch to dpns. I haven't learned magic loop yet so this is it!!!

Size 12" for baby/toddler
16" for adults. You will need Dpns if knitting in round for decrease.

I use 16" circulars and go to 2 circulars when too few stitches for 1. Not a fan of magic loop.
