Hello dear KPers,

I came upon Baby Cakes and Cotton Cakes in a Michaels ad. Has anyone knit with these new yarns?

I also found metallic Shawl in a Ball. Has anyone knit with this?

Thank you.

Lots of KP's have made some lovely things - baby sweaters and shawls come to mind. I saw them here, so if you do a KP search you can too.!

Do you like the stitch definition for your shawl?

My daughter just brought me 4 balls of the Baby Cakes. It contains no wool and feels pretty soft.

I'm working on an afghan with Baby Cakes and I love it. It'seems so soft and crochet great. I plan to buy some more to use.

Can anyone share pictures for all to see the stitch definition and how the colors work out?

When I phoned Michaels about Premier Sweet Roll, which they don't carry but told me about their Baby Cakes, which sounds a little like the Sweet Roll I have been using.

Will be at Michaels tomorrow and am going to check it out for maybe a shawl or an Afghan.

Do look at the original Caron Cakes. They have some wool in them, much like Plymouth Encore, Kraemer Perfection,Knit Picks Mighty Stitch, and Lion Brand Wool Ease. These yarns have the easy care of the acrylic and the bounce and feel of the wool. Lovely to work with! Many of the followers of the original have left out the wool. BTW Knit picks now has a nice "cake" like yarn with long color runs, it's a fingering weight and perfect for shawls and scarves - and it's on sale right now.

I was at Michael's today and checked out the Caron Cakes and I was right because of the percentage of the wool, it has to be hand washed, which is not for me. I know another kper checked out and printed the information on the Caron Cakes and she wrote the yarn could be machine wash and dryer use.
She said she got it off the site, which I have not checked as the label was pretty clear on how to wash it.

Instead I ended up getting Bernat Blanket Stripes which is #6 super bulky which will be great for afghan/blanket for my grandson (blue stripes) and purple stripes for my granddaughter. I also have 12 skeins of Premier Deborah Norville Serenity Baby yarn in muti blues and white which will work for my friends daughters (soon to be second son), I knitted the first son an afghan in a different color as at the time we didn't know the sex, so this time knowing the sex, the Deborah Norville yarn will work.
