Does anyone know of some brands that do not contain wool? My spousal unit has said (after 17+ years) that if I make him a specific pair of socks, he will wear them . . . and he's allergic to wool. I need some kind of a blend, as he is hard on sock heels & toes, so straight alpaca would be tough in terms of cost/wear. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks -

https://www.yarn.com/categories/non-wool-yarn
premier yarns has some too
If you do a google search for no wool sock yarn you will get a number of options

ETA: http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/search?query=#view=thumblist&sort=best&fiber=-yak%2B-wool%2B-qiviut%2B-mohair%2B-metallic%2B-merino%2B-llama%2B-camel%2B-bison%2B-angora%2B-alpaca&weight=fingering%7Clight-fingering&fiberc=2%7C3%7C4%7C5
This search is for fingering/light fingering yarns excluding all animal fibers.
Many to choose from. For socks you probably want to have a yarn that includes some nylon.

Borocco Comfort just came out with a wool free sock weight yarn that is acrylic/nylon. I've used Comfort in bulky and worsted weights and like it a lot.

CoBaSi by Hikoo- is a cotton Bamboo, Silk blend that is highly recommended for socks - I bought some this spring - it feels and looks lovely - haven’t had a chance to knit with it yet. I’m looking forward to it though!

I knit a pair for a friend last year in Cobasi. It was nice to knit and the socks turned out great. Very soft and I like the sheen from the silk.

I also like the Cobasi by Hikoo but have only used it for baby socks so not sure how they will wear in the heel & toe area.

I've used this sock weight yarn quite a bit and it's great. Wears very well. Two of my favorite pairs of socks were made with this yarn several years ago and I have worn them a lot and still look good. No holes in the bottoms of the heel that i tend to get. It's soft and comfortable and comes in nice colors.

I vote for CoBaSi as well! It makes wonderful socks. If I wanted something a little warmer but wanted to stay away from wool, I'd choose one of the acrylic options. Michaels sells a yarn called Woolike, and there's Plymouth Yarns Diversity, as well as the previously mentioned Berroco Comfort Sock.
