Had a lady walk up to me at our knitting group....., it happens to all of us, as we meet in a public place. I was knitting a pretty green merino wool top (for myself). She asked if I could make something in the same color for her. Now, this is a finer weight than I usually knit, almost lace weight, but I wanted to try something new. I told the nice lady that my 4 skeins of yarn were $8.00 each, on sale, and I needed 4 so that’s $32 right there. I’d been knitting about 6 wks, maybe 10 hours per week so 60 hrs & about 30 hours to go. At $20 per hour that would be around $1800 plus yarn = $1832. Told her if she’d be willing to pay that amount I’d be willing to knit it..... or I could teach her to knit & she could make her own, for the cost of the yarn.... Believe it or not, she declined both.😇

Ohhh I DO believe it! Some people, they have absolutely NO idea of the years of practice and perfecting we put into the things we make.

My motto is, knitting is like sex. If I love you enough it’s free, otherwise, you can’t afford it.

I have never understood how people (so often people you hardly know) can ask you to spend your money and, more important, your precious time to do things for them when they most often would do absolutely NOTHING for you......but they do. A simple NO is good enough. No excuses and no explanations.

I was recently asked to knit a Nativity scene but in this instance, I had no hesitation in saying no. I told the person that the knitting would not have bothered me but sewing and stuffing countless tiny pieces would have driven me insane.

I love the picture and the little sign! I passed them on to my friends who also deal with the same issue. Thank you for sharing with us.

I always offer to teach them I will not knit on request and I never sell any of my work. My standard response is." I am so glad that you like this it is not difficult and I would be more than happy to teach you how to do this. Just buy yarn and what ever size needles are required to for the project

I ask 3 questions: 1) What do you want made, 3) how soon do you need it, and 3) are you willing to pay for it.
That usually ends it right there.
