I've been a busy designer bee! (Just because I'm probably one of the oldest designers on Ravelry doesn't mean I can't keep up with the youngsters. ) This new one is called Usonian. I am getting more and more into experimenting with striping and texture using different yarn colors. The name comes from the Usonian-style homes designed by my favorite architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. I always loved his work, but wasn't aware of this style from his later years until I moved to Alexandria, Virginia, and discovered the Pope-Leighey Usonian house just a few moments from my house. Every out-of-town guest gets dragged there whether they like it or not!

I think it is really fascinating that such a grand architect spent his later years designing modest homes for regular folks. I admire how the homes look very modern but organic at the same time. When I was designing this shawl, I wanted to capture the feel of Wright's "less is more" design aesthetic, with his use of rather stark horizontal and vertical lines in various configurations depending on the material used. I was particularly inspired by the Adelman house, even though it is admittedly a bit grander than most of the other Usonian homes. (link can be found here https://www.dezeen.com/2016/06/24/kubala-washatko-architects-tkwa-restoration-1940s-frank-lloyd-wright-adelman-house-fox-point-wisconsin/).

I found this other good link that has beautiful pictures of his most famous Usonian homes. http://www.metropolismag.com/architecture/residential-architecture/seven-hidden-gems-from-frank-lloyd-wrights-usonian-period/

I used a total of 620 yards--360 yards of the darker color and 260 yards of the lighter. Yarn was Knerd String 2-Ply MCN Sock (a fingering weight) on US 5 needles. The wingspan measures 61" and the depth is 27". Testers used up to 680 yards.

Another lovely design, Dee. The combination of textures and color create a multi-layered effect. Very nice indeed.

Great design! As contemporary as FLW was in his time. And after all this time, still in style.
Striking color choices. Looks like you're keeping up with those 'younguns' ... who can't really hold a candle to your expertise and experience. So THERE!

You're NOT that old. We just have to be more clever than the youngsters when we do things. Your designs are always lovely and well received by everyone. Thanks for your creativity.
