I am appauled, disgusted, outraged, ect. Have I been living under a rock, am I just naive, stupid, or what? I don't understand why members of the NRA get discounts on plane tickets, hotel rooms and such. What? This is unbelievably insane. I never knew this. I have saved lives, delivered babies and I get no discounts. What do they do? Also why do we have to take driving lessons. I think to prove we know how to drive a car responsibly. A car is a lethal weapon. It can kill multiple people in one "accident". You must take a test with a person to judge whether you are capable and will be a safe driver. None of this is true to get a gun, that is also a lethal weapon. Why? You must wait to get your drivers license. The NRA say "guns don't kill people. People do" . If we applied the same rules to buy a gun as to drive a car it would not let a person with mental problems get a gun of any kind. They would be seen and tested by a reliable person teaching them and testing them before they are allowed to get the gun they want. This would not stop responsible gun owners. It would not go against the NRA. Why do they think they are so special that they deserve discounts on things, when they do nothing to be sure every gun owner is trained and responsible. Like we must show our drivers license, they must be prepared to show there gun licence to show training and get it renewed every few years.

I agree with you. I am appalled that mentally challenged individuals, convicted criminals and kids are able to get guns. In Wisconsin a 2 year old can get a gun. Gun shows can sell anyone a gun without doing a background check. We hear all this BS about Second Amendment rights when in fact that amendment refers to the
Militia 's rights to carry guns. No where in that amendment does it mention the rights of every man, woman and child the right to carry a gun.

I do not at all like the NRA BUT other organizations offer discounts for their members - AARP, AAA, etc. Organizations often offered perks to get people to join.

The NRA can offer me all the perks they want and I still will never join their group!

Although I don't agree with it, the discounts NRA members got are nothing more than 'association' discounts, the same type of 'benefits' that are negotiated by most other associations. For instance, if you pay your dues to AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), or AAA (American Automobile Association), or NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) or ALA (American Library Association), or any other association (and there are thousands, plus credit unions), they have groups that negotiate discounts with various vendors. As long as your dues are paid, you are a card carrying member and you are eligible for these discounts. I suppose the vendors and discounts vary based on the amount of money the associations have available for the programs. Since the NRA is an association, they do the same thing. I am heartened to see so many vendors backing out of those agreements with the NRA but it's a shame that it's taken so many innocent lives to make that happen.

Here we go again! Why open the topic if only to complain about it being posted in the wrong section. Who died and made you the topic monitor? I thought that was administration's job!

ETA:. You do realize the default topic heading is "Main" don't you? The original poster more than likely just didn't remember to change the topic heading.

They are just a large organization that has negotiated discounts for their members. It is the same for AARP members and AAA members, Etc. It has absolutely nothing to do with them being a firearm association. The more you have need of something the easier it is to negotiate discounts. Our condo association received a sizable discount on our internet access because we were doing the whole association.

I was happy to see today on Facebook an open letter from Dick’s Sporting Goods advising that they will no longer sell automatic or semi automatic rifles nor any associated accessories in any of their stores, nor will they sell any gun to anyone under the age of 21. They also called on federal and state governments to strengthen our systems of background checks and close the gun show and private sale loopholes.

It isn't the discounts that bother me, seniors get discounts just because they are a certain age. The power that the NRA exerts over corporations, politicians and decisions is unfathomable. The contributions to politics are intended to buy their votes and promote the NRA agenda. In essence, a NRA membership fee is a contribution to an organization, and its members are allowing the few to decide right and wrong for them. All of the members could not be Republicans, or even conservatives. Perhaps eliminating the discounts will change the minds of those who joined for the discounts.
