I'm not sure how it happened that I found my way to KP...but I am here...and glad for it even with the current state KP now seems to find itself. I'm posting this from a knitters viewpoint since that is mainly what I do and this is in no way meant to be a slight to those here who crochet, quilt, sew, etc. I have nothing but admiration and appreciation for everyone here who share and give so freely of their skills and talents whatever they may be. I enjoy all the posted pictures, love the free patterns or being directed to sources for a pattern and links to video tutorials.
I don't think I'm wrong in thinking that most of us came to KP for the same reasons as I learn, to be inspired, and to be with others who choose to create. KP has become my daily dose of inspiration from knitters around the world. It is very satisfying to spend a bit of my day with people that love yarn, people who would build an addition to their home to house their bulging stash and people who would happily spend their day knitting away (if only they could).
There is so much to like about being part of this connectiveness to others who share the same passion as me and seek knowledge from those more experienced. So with that...I have chosen to see all that is still good about KP and that at the center of it's beating heart there are people who are good and decent and chose to have THEIR KP be what they want it to be...a place to come together because we share a common desire to create with yarn, or fabric, or needle and thread etc.
There may be some who have chosen to use this forum in a manner it was not meant to be...there will always be a degree of discord when many are involved in a group. Just as in families there are clashes and spats, disagreements, finger pointing and name calling. We can only be responsible for our own actions, our own words...chose to participate in the ugliness or chose to bring light when the dark sneaks in. While it does not escape me that there is trouble in paradise...we can be part of the problem by fanning those flames of discord or we can be part of the solution by remembering why we are here.
My KP is still my daily dose of all knitting happiness. I have chosen not to scold or chastise those who have forgotten why they are here or fail to use good manners or post pictures of their flower garden or make politic comments....and please do not think I am indirectly being scoldful of you if you have done so. I also just don't see how participating in any of these lengthy discussions about those who are not playing nice is helpful but rather serves to fan the flames so to speak. Since no one seems to be at the helm these days maybe it would be best to private message someone and gently remind them if they have posted something they should not have. Perhaps that would help to contain arguments and if the offender got enough private messages maybe that would be more beneficial than a public slap on the wrist.
I hesitated to post this as it may be viewed as adding to the discussion about KP's current state...something I just now said I wouldn't do. I titled this topic "In Appreciation of KP" hoping to differentiate it from the posts that speak to the negative but then add to the problem by pickering with others weighing in on the discussion. Instead... I speak to APPRECIATING KP. It was after all born from our love for our craft...perhaps if we can remember that and not engage with those who strive to redirect us ...taking us down a path this forum was not meant to go...we can reclaim KP.

Well said, I certainly agree with you.

Thank you ......there are so many lovely people , so thanks to all of you...let's just rejoice in that. We can't change others and how they act no matter what we do or say. I need to realise that more, and more. I have been trying to change what my son is doing to his family, but can't. he won't listen and they are suffering for it. And he thinks my opinion is wrong, can't do a thing about it just have to stand by and maybe pick up the pieces if I can.

Wholeheartedly agree!!! I really love this forum for the good in it, and thoroughly enjoy reading and occasionally posting. I simply ignore the rest.

Makes a lot of sense to me. Better than admonishing others and giving useless advice. Easier to read what you want to read and ignore what you don't want to read.

I find myself sifting through the posts far more than I have done previously. I certainly spend more time choosing the subjects that I respond to. But... still check in at least twice a day.

I too find myself taking longer to pick and choose anything I read and respond to. However, I still haven't found anything better than KP.

Nicely put. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ»

KP has for me, become something of a 'pick & mix' I pick out subjects/posters I enjoy and pass over the ones I'm not so keen on.

The majority of the time I choose not to respond to catty or negative remarks I also do not participate in political debates.
Life is too short and I have more to do. I love all the KP folks who like me love to Knit and and have a few giggles and pass on some words of wisdom and tips. Its nice to keep life on an even keel. The nasty type debates get none of my time. SL

Very well said. I love KP and learned so much. KP is as much a part of my day as actual knitting. I have just learned when I open and start to read a subject that if it’s not about knitting, I close it. I love being able to come here for help and conversation. It’s like having coffee with a good friend each morning and I thank all the wonderful people who share their knowledge, concern, and friendship.
