I thought it would be nice if KP members in NC and SC would post updates and possibly photos on one thread to keep others informed as long as we have wifi. Also, if you stayed at home, how have you prepared? If you evacuated, where are you and how are you doing?

I'll start:

I am in Moncks Corner, SC, which is about 30 miles from the coastline. Florence has not yet arrived but we are supposed to get the storm later today into tonight and tomorrow. So far it is just a little breezy and cloudy. We have taken in all the stuff from our porch, and we are prepared with food, water, flashlights, etc. Of course we have books to read, and I have knitting.

During the past few days, I did all the laundry, baked bread and blueberry muffins and bought non perishable food. I had saved plastic pop bottles, and I filled them with water and froze a lot of them so that when we lose power we can use them inside the main part of the fridge to keep things cold. Like an old fashioned ice box, I suppose!

We are not frightened so far, but I am not good at waiting and it seems that's what we have been doing for days!

OK-- Now it's your turn, my fellow Carolinians!

Talked to my brother about an hour ago (35 miles north of Wilmington) and of course no power, local radio stations are out and it's raining too hard for him to go out to the generator to refill the tank (Idiot, should have put it closer to the house). He says there isn't any flooding yet. The wind took his shed so now things are getting wet, his precious stuff.
I'm miffed because I tried to talk him into evacuating, the kids all left, but her was worried about his STUFF - arrrrggggghhhh!!

You certainly are smart prepared. I hope you weather (ha, ha) the storm without major damage. I have a friend in Ashville,NC and he's prepared (wine, junk food and ready for naps). Good luck.

Talked to brother again, he went out in the rain and got the generator up close to the house so he is set now for power. The governor was on tv at the time and said they are evacuating more people because of the flooding and that they expect even worse flooding along the coast than what was predicted yesterday. With Florence slowing down and both Carolinas have ground that is saturated it doesn't sound good. Beachgirl1000 stay safe!
noni please keep your snow up there I'm not ready for it yet ;)

We are just now beginning to have a few little gusts but nothing more so far. This thing is really a slow-moving behemoth, isn't it?

It sure is! They say that it is as big as Michigan and it's supposed to slow down even more tomorrow.
