Mr. Bush, "41"
I tried to send the link, but couldn't make it work. I was reading an article on NPR.org this morning. It mentioned Dana Carvey, the Saturday Night Live comedian who used to do a pretty funny impression of the 41st President. Apparently, they became great friends. The President invited Carvey to "roast" him at a gathering after Bush 41 lost his second bid for the office. Carvey described how he came up with the impression he did. He said you start out with Mr. Rogers - 'it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood' - and toss in some John Wayne. Then you have George Herbert Walker Bush. That description seems pretty spot on & it made me smile. The NPR.org site has some well written & interesting articles on the man we may not have known so well. Nothing lurid. Just filling out the limited view the general public has of anyone famous.
ETA: The article even speaks of his love of wild, colorful socks! That is what caught my eye in the first place!
People from all over the world used to send him socks.😄
Thank you for sharing this...He was a great Statesman.
Lovely to read about George H. W. Bush! I didn't know he loved wild socks! A great guy. I didn't agree with him politically, but he was a mensch, a human being, who cared.
