Because there is no crisis at the border,

Because $5 billion will not build the whole wall,

Because it would take a decade to build the wall,

Because the landowners' rights on the border mean the wall cannot be built,

Because even an attempt to do so would involve hundreds of eminent domain lawsuits that would go for years,

Because a wall can be sawed through, climbed over, and tunneled under, and the existing segments already have,

Because there is no border between Texas and Mexico, only a river,

Because a river is the opposite of a wall, a gathering place, a place where many kinds of life come together, flourish, are renewed,

Because from Texas to the Oregon border, much of what is now the US southwest was Mexico and no honorable principle, only strongarming in a shitty war, is why it's not, and because the flourishing of Latino culture is dissolving the border in beautiful ways and perhaps making the lonely USA at last part of the Americas,

Because aside from being impossible a wall would be an environmental disaster,

Because the majority of undocumented immigrants here didn't cross the border; they overstayed their visas,

Because undocumented immigrants probably cultivated and picked some of the food you ate today and otherwise are crucial to our economy,

Because refugees have the right to be here, and because taking in refugees is, or was, one of the noblest principles of this country,

Because the violence in our society is almost entirely homegrown and the people who want the wall also want to protect that violence as guns, as patriarchy, as white supremacy, as homophobia, as hyperindividualism,

Because the threats to our society include climate change and poverty (and people are losing their housing because of the shutdown, which is also making food less safe and transportation less safe and creating mass suffering),

Because the drug crisis is about us here, not them there, from domestic manufacture and distribution to the immense appetite for numbing and oblivion that drugs offer,

Because he's really building a wall around his vulnerability to official and unofficial scrutiny of his high crimes, misdemeanors, emolumentary grabs, scams, conflicts of interest, sex charges, and a few other things like that,

We are all hostages, kidnapped in a stupid game with no end in sight, since the wall is impossible as well as immoral as well as destructive.

By a man who bankrupted business after business and is now intent on bankrupting a nation, though he doesn't know that's what he's doing, because he never knows what he's doing.

And by the senatorial snapping turtle who in order to protect the Republican agenda has systematically violated all the rules and ethics of his office.

Nuts. A bully. A spoiled man baby who won't play unless it's by the rules he makes up, and changes, as he goes along, with his little pointer finger in the air, testing the hot air emanating from his little pie hole, bouncing off his base, coming back & ruffling the mangy hair of that dead weasel he has glued on his pointy, little, ignorant head. But you know, if you send me a PM, I'll tell you how I really feel...

I get enough of this political ranting on FB and the news. I thought this site was about knitting and crocheting and safe from this ugly business. Just my thoughts.

I would like to add that many of the illegals in the USA come from Europe, and did not need to enter from the Mexican border.

I agree. I hate the division, the discord, the violence. I hate having it on this site. I forget to read all the titles, but guess I am going to have to be more diligent. Sorry to see our forum going down the political tube.

Maybe because just thinking about this big orange blob who thinks he owns us interferes with the calm and attention we knitters and crocheters would prefer to have while doing our needlework.

Do I have permission to post this on Facebook? Excellent no matter what your party is.

I agree. Why are we not sticking to our favorite past time. I think that those that want to discuss politics should find another site.

The only one stopping you from discussing knitting is you. If you want to discuss only knitting, stay out of General Chit Chat and the Attic. No one is going to do your bidding about this. Some of us can actually think about important issues that affect all of us in addition to knitting. Which is more important, the future of the US or your being shielded from the reality of knowing that there is an incompetent nitwit wrongfully sitting in the oval office, ruining everything he touches?

By the way, it's "pastime," not " past time "

This only serves to divide us--this is a knitting forum. Perhaps another site would serve you well.

I agree with Charbaby.

General Chit chat is for any topic not related to knitting or crocheting.

I cannot wait for our weasel haired leader to be taken off his pedastal & put in a corner to pout. I do not understand how this temper tantrum throwing baby is still “running” the country.

I think he brought his You’re Fired attitude into The White House, when he left his show. I do not recall any recent leaders fire so many people out of the White House.

I do not understand how this Ring Ding got voted into this position. Was everybody smoking Pot? when they came in to vote for him & to legalize marijuana.❓🤷🏼‍♀️❓
