Doing English lessons at school had nothing to do with our language.
I wonder why? could it be that the teachers couldn’t get their heads around this so turned to literature instead?

Thank you! I had a teacher in seventh grade who was really into language. No teacher I ever had after that seemed to know as much about the structure of the English language as he did, at least until I got to the university. At that point, my chemistry teacher was a tough task master.....my grade was lowered to a β€œB” because I had a dangling participle in a sentence in one of my papers. The English department professors that I encountered (not many) seemed to pale in comparison to these folks.
