Anyone else made this and if so did you soak and block before adding the button bands as suggested in the pattern?

The designer does say that the suggested yarn grows quite a bit and therefore a swatch is imperative. I’m not using the recommended yarn and my swatch barely changed measurements having been soaked and blocked. I have never heard of adding the bands after blocking and would value your opinion please.

Yes, that’s good but have you ever had a pattern that tells you to soak and block before adding the button bands which is what this pattern suggests?

There are 961 projects on Ravelry. Ask someone who has made it:

If you have experience with the yarn you are using, it probably wouldn't make any difference. Beautiful sweater, BTW.☺

One of the knitters that I follow on Instagram made one and documented with video. Last week she did wash her's and dried it flat. When she was ready to open the front after adding the button bands it was almost painful to watch but, it all worked out just fine.

I'm not sure if she has it documented on Ravelry or not but she did also use the suggested yarn. She's Kristy Glass and goes by kristyglassknits.

Yup 961 that’s a lot to trawl through. I was hoping some KP’ers were in that number!

Thanks, I’ll see if I can find it. I think the reason for it must be for when you use the suggested yarn which apparently grows quite a bit.

I made this sweater and yes I did soak before adding button bands.

Do you know why the designer suggests this? I’ve never added bands after blocking.

I've filtered it down to 'projects with notes' and 'helpful projects' with key words 'button bands'.
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-throwback/people?view=cards&search=button+bands&helpful=1&has_notes=1

I haven't read them though..

That’s helpful, thanks Trish. So far everyone seems to have done as told and blocked before adding bands so I guess that is what I should do too.

Mary, I am on your ignore list so I can't post in your topic, but the baby of the UK ISIS mother who wanted to return to the UK has died. It was reported in the news yesterday. The baby was real.

Well, it’s not me. I’m far too cheap to purchase a single pattern for $8, and too lazy to block before picking up the stitches for the button band.

The baby actually died of pneumonia last week some time, not that it is relevant to this post 🤷‍♀️
