What was the first recording (and media) that you ever bought with your own money?
Mine was 45 rpm record - allowance - Uh-Oh I'm Falling in Love Again by Jimmie Rodgers (the pop star, not the country star)

Don't remember, really, but probably something by Rosemary Clooney or Frankie Laine as they were two of my favorites. Between my sister and me, we probably bought 2 or 3 singles a month. We only got about $2.50 for allowance and the singles back (1950s) then were 79 cents so we couldn't spend too much on them and go to the movies, too!

"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" the 45 rpm by the Beatles. I think the B side was "She Loves You." That record got worn out!

I loved that song! You just reminded me of it. Those songs were happy, with easy to remember words, and always a good beat.
Here in Australia, we had our own rock star, Johnny O'Keefe, and his would have been the first 45 rpm record I bought, when working, having just purchased my first Kingsley Radiogram at about 17yrs of age. This was a big deal for me at the time &
we enjoyed playing many different types of records including those made by Doris Day and others recorded in the 1960's.

Am having trouble locating an exact photo of it on the internet, but still looking out for one. These radiograms were manufactured in Australia and the founder was Howard Kingsley Love who began work in 1934.
Cheers
