I finally got the pattern and I am having alittle trouble doing the M1R and M1L. Is there an easier way to do increase on both sides? Any and all advice would be very helpful. And grateful. Jodi

That's are lots of options for increasing, a simple one is a yarn over which creates a hole
Here's a good tutorial of different ways

I usually do kbf rather than M1.

That's my preferred increase, too. It's a lot faster than the M1's and doesn't seem to show any more than they do.

I rarely do m1 increases. The pattern I'm using now calls for m1 left and right but I'm doing a yo and ktbl on the next round. Decide which increase you prefer and use it if you want rather than struggle with the increase called for.

Look at lift leg left and lift leg right. Google should have a tutorial

So I could use the KFB?

Only if you like the looks of it. Its my favorite.
Try experimenting on a scrap/swatch to see if you like any of the ones I sent in the ariticle.

Be very careful when using a kfb instead of a m1 increase. The kfb uses a stitch up to make the increase. A m1 stitch doesn't use a previously made stitch.

In my opinion the M1R and M1L result in the most attractive increase as they mirror each other. When I was learning to do them, I wrote each one on an individual index card and had to use the appropriate card on each side of the shawl. With a little practice I no longer needed the cards. Now, I can tell at a glance what needs to happen. You will “get it,” too.
