I'm wondering if anybody has used this yarn and what opinions may be about it.

I would need to order a lot of it to make afghans for my children, so it sure would be helpful if I could get some feedback as to the quality. I looked on Ravelry - not much information there.

Also - it has to be machine washable and dryable. Ice Yarns never shows information about that.

TIA for anything you can offer.

I've used several types of Ice yarns, but none washable. The laundry instructions are on each skein's label/band in symbols. I had to Google the meaning of them.
Also, the colorway isn't included on those bands, but on the wrapper of each package of them.

Unless it specifies super wash, I assume any yarn from Ice Yarns that contains wool is not machine washable, and hand wash it. You may do better with 100% acrylic. I’m using their Magic Light acrylic and it’s soft and machine washable.

There is a Favourite yarn that is 50% wool/50% acrylic, and a Favorite that is 100% acrylic. A bunch of acrylic colors are out of stock:

The one I am considering is 50% wool, 50% acrylic. I know that the Caron cakes yarn is a wool/acrylic blend and even though the label says hand wash, machine washing is fine for that. I was hoping that the Ice Yarns Favourite might also be like that.

It's unfortunate that the care information is only on the labels and not on the website. It would be really unfortunate to order a large quantity of the yarn only to find that it would be unsuitable for the purpose because it would require hand washing.

I've tried unsuccessfully before to do that. But I guess I have nothing to lose by trying again.

Thanks.

You could buy a small quantity, swatch, and launder by machine, but it seems a lot of trouble to me. I can endorse the 100% acrylic I bought from them. I’ve used it before for charity hats and scarves, and it came out of the washer and dryer perfect.

I may have to do that. The afghans will require a significant amount of yarn, and it is on sale now, but I don't want to buy a quantity sufficient for 6 afghans and have it not be suitable.

I've also used their acrylic for baby items. I really liked the long striping colors and the items turned out really well. For these afghans, though, I need a heavier weight yarn. And it would probably be nice to have a wool/acrylic blend.

I'm trying to build an afghan around this: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#sort=best&inline=&query=tahesha

Under the yarn tags you can search for the type of yarn you are looking for, superwash, 100% acrylic, etc.

I am knitting with the Favorite Wool (50/50) right now. It is beautiful wool. The label says it can be washed at 30 degrees.

Thank you!

Can it be machine dried - low temp?

If I’m reading the symbols correctly, no dryer and no ironing.

Thanks for that. I've already ordered some, so I guess I will have to make a swatch and try air drying in the dryer. Afghans are too big to dry flat.

Wish me luck. : /
