I surprised a friend with this. She was thrilled, especially as I had knit it myself.

Here it is:

This is where the pattern came from - a very old booklet of patterns for children to knit.

My sisters and I used it when we were little.

I remember that pattern. I used to use it a great deal. Now people seem to just throw a teabag in a cup of hot water and say they’ve made tea. So many teapots are just collecting dust. Thanks for the memory.

I remember that pattern - I think it had a matching doll's outfit too

Thanks for all your replies. I'm glad you like the cosy and that it reminds you of days gone by.

Valmac, my mother taught me to knit - our school didn't teach it.

Knitwit, are you talking about the whole booklet or just the tea cosy pattern?

Yes Myrle, they certainly do have teapots in Ireland and in Northern Ireland.

Spinning Gill, I'm working on the doll's outfit currently!

I'm amazed that other people are familiar with this booklet. For a long time my mother didn't allow us to do anything other than stocking stitch, because she thought anything more complicated would be too difficult for us. When I started doing the tea cosy, I reckoned I was old enough and experienced enough to knit the actual pattern lol.
