We just returned from two wonderful weeks in Alaska via ship traveling through the inside passage. The Fjords were beautiful. We also traveled by small boat through Tracey Arm to a glacier that was "calving" and we were surprised our ship followed us into the ice field as far as it did. The ice bergs floating on the water were covered with mama seals and their baby pups. We saw bears, mountain goats, bald eagles and rivers full of migrating salmon.
Took my first helicopter ride from Skagway over mountains with breathtaking scenery to a glacier where we hiked across the ice. The following day we took a different helicopter outside Juneau to a snow covered glacier where we met the most amazing sled dogs and their trainers who live and train on the glacier in the summer. Our team placed in last years Iditarod and pulled us in dog sleds over the glacier. Ketchikan was next with a ride in a sea plane older than we are to a remote lodge where we feasted on Alaskan crab the size of platters.
I found Qivuik yarn as well as yarn made from Artic Fox fur, which is softer than Qivuik and more expensive. I resisted buying, but it was amazing to touch.
Alaska is wild, breathtaking, beautiful and the people there are wonderful! Forget the Caribbean, Alaska is the trip of a lifetime.
This is all so fabulous! I mean the fun & great photos!
Love the photos. Sounds like an amazing trip.
We did the same cruise a few years ago. One of the best trips ever! The helicopter to the Glacier was amazing (even if we did have Dougie Hauser as a pilot). The inside passage was beautiful as were the icebergs near the glacier where the ship turned 360 degrees so everyone would have a good view of the glacier while they explained about the different of the glacier. Amazing trip.
Beautiful.. glad you could go... go while you can.. we will just enjoy others experiences.. thanks for a great trip.. happy traveling
Amazing pics... thank you for sharing
Looks like you had a great time! Nice pictures!
We did that cruise 9 years ago, had a great time. Now you know why I go to Alaska every chance i get, love it up there, so beautiful. Hope the fires get under control, the Swan Lake fire was only about 5 miles from our families cabin. I suggested they have that fire retardant sprayed on it and I would pay for it, said they would line it up if the fire got much closer. The glacier ice is so beautiful, I got some yarn about that color from Wooly Mammoth in Anchorage a couple years ago
You had an amazing trip!!! Thanks for sharing. Aloha... Bev
Oh, How I would love to do this. Thank you for posting your pictures.
I've been before, but going again in May 2020, with hubby and four friends.
Sounds like an amazing trip. I want to go there someday.
I saw qivuit yarn in Banff several years ago but couldn’t pay those “touristy” prices, I came home & searched the Internet & found a place in Quebec that sells it much more reasonable. PM me if you would like me to look it up for you.
Sounds like a terrific adventure!
