I just took this picture to send to my daughters and thought “Wow! My yard is starting to look pretty good!” Plenty more to do.

I’m not bragging! I let my large yard get completely overgrown since we moved in. Three daughters and a full time job kept me busy! Besides, I had no idea what to do.

But now I’m a retired empty nester with all day to do whatever I want! So for the last few summers I’ve been trying to do something...mostly cutting...pulling...repeat.

I’m not too good with plants, but whomever lived here before me was a gardener So i’m discovering all kinds of things that survived despite the neglected conditions. My sister comes now and then to point out what is or isn’t a weed. (I’ve babied a few weeds!)

But anyway (sorry to ramble!) but finally starting to see change feels good and being out there is such good exercise. Summers go by way too fast here in Michigan.

Beautiful garden! What a pleasure it must be for you to look at. Give yourself a pat on the back.

It looks lovely. Gardening is not difficult to learn (as you go). You can check with local gardening companies to have questions answered (as long as you buy something, in most cases) or even with friends. Enjoy your retirement and your garden!

Stunningly lovely! At least you have green grass now! We have brown grass with some green highlights.

Do you want to come do mine. With my sinus problems and now breathing issues I don't do yard work in the summer. It is all I can do to mow the grass. Your place is beautiful. I have a ex brother in law that comes to help in the fall but that is not enough. Can't afford to pay for help. I bet it makes you feel good to have such a beautiful place

Very nice. Be sure to leave your grass a little longer lenth, and in the fall dont rake the leaves.
2 reasons...Bugs live there that are baby bird food in the spring, and fireflies also live in the longer grass and leaves.
A bit of cleanup in the late spring is fine.
3rd reason... it's easier!
