It looks lovely. Gardening is not difficult to learn (as you go). You can check with local gardening companies to have questions answered (as long as you buy something, in most cases) or even with friends. Enjoy your retirement and your garden!

Thank you Irene! I am thankful there are so many places to get information and help, and I have been reaching out and Google is my best friend. The other day, through our local internet neighborhood group, a stranger a few streets over offered “free ferns” to anyone interested. She gave me about 40 full size ostrich ferns that I will plant today. Just what I wanted...shade loving perennials...and you can’t beat free. 😋

Stunningly lovely! At least you have green grass now! We have brown grass with some green highlights.

Thank you r4f. I had a few trees cut down last summer and as the arborist walked around my yard identifying trees I was surprised when he commented “I like your grass”. I’d say my grass is 50% grass and 50% weeds, much to my neighbors’ chagrin who keep meticulous lawns. He liked that it was “natural” so that’s what I’m going with!

I think that I have finally found exercise that I enjoy. It takes no time at all to get my daily steps in, and if I don’t I just jog a mile or so. The more I move the more energy I have. I’m particularly happy about this.

Beautiful view--just wondering if you are in southern, mid or northern Mich.

Hi JeanneE. I live in southeast Michigan. It seems we had a particularly long and cold winter this year. I vowed I’d get outside more when the weather got nice, and I’ve kept that promise, so that’s another reason I’m so pleased. I have been retired for several years and feel like I’m just now getting adjusted.

It looks so serene and peaceful. Gardening is good for the soul and getting back to Mother nature is always good as at least you can see results for your hard efforts. Enjoy your retirement in such a wonderful location too. I imagine it is freezing in Winter there, but now must be gorgeous to sit back, relax and plan!
