A strange request for baby shower gift I thought but that is what they wanted. A work colleague is finishing tomorrow to have her first baby. Both she and her husband love sharks so I was asked if I could do something for the gift basket we are putting together. This is what I came up with. I used part of a pattern for a sunglasses case, with a few tweaks. It is free pattern on Ravelry by Chelsea Roberts. I just knitted a square straight of the bottom of it and added a fin. All done in 100% cotton, except the red which is 50% cotton, 50% acrylic. I am surprised at how very soft this yarn is for a cotton. Stylecraft cotton DK.

Personally I find the face on that thing pretty horrifying esp for a baby.

Lovely! Perhaps the child will grow up to protect oceans with your early influence đŸ’•

I agree, that’s what they wanted so that’s what they got. I doubt the work colleague will actually give it to the baby, it is just to go with the theme of the gift basket, I hope!

There's something weird about a shark "lovey", isn't there? Cute idea though.

Brilliant! I love sharks, too! Incredible animals. I would love to go down in a sturdy shark cage to see them up close in their environment.

LOVE it. And so will the baby.
Sure to be a conversation starter at the doctors office.

Perfect since the parents are into sharks.
I made a smaller one, just didn't have the red mouth.

GOOD JOB

Babies love what is familiar to them. They are not innately afraid of anything. So while a shark or tiger or lion might frighten an older child or adult, a baby will just accept it for what it is, a toy to hold on to and help him/ her feel secure

My niece lives near the ocean and they love anything ocean related for their baby. There is a free shark bag pattern online that is very cute too.
