I am driving myself crazy trying to make a simple button hole on a hanging towel. I have read directions , watched video over and over and over and can not get it. Going to lay it down and read a book. But the sad part, I have 3 finished and 2 ready to do button hole on both and have been working for 2 hours on one. I know I have a good book to read tonight so forgetting about button holes for the night.

Are you sewing it or knitting or crocheting it? It would help to know that.
knitted The pattern just has a crocheted chain to go over the button but I don't like that so I am trying to change pattern and just make a simple button hole. I mess up when I try to cast on stitches. I do the bind off but can not get the cast on part done.

Also: What's your pattern? What are the instructions for the buttonhole?
It just has a crochet chain as a loop to go over the button but afraid it won't hold up after using for awhile so just trying to make a simple button hole. I watched how to make easy ones but can't get the cast on stitches right.

Hi!
Here’s what you need to do:
Knit until your bind off.
Bind off “x” stitches (depends on the size of you button), then continue to knit until the end of the row.
Turn.
When you get to where you bound off, cast on the same number of stitches then continue knitting that row.
(Note: if you usually do a long tail cast on, that wouldn’t work)
Does that make sense ?
Hope it helps.

I agree, but On the Cast on part, I turn and use a cable cast on for the required # of stitches, then turn back and complete the row. This gives a very tidy buttonhole. Best of luck.
