I am not sure if this is in the right place, but this is, I feel, a particularly dangerous spam. I have received one email and one text, supposedly from Bell saying they are refunding me some money. It isn't for large amounts. The first one I got was an email and it looked exactly like an etransfer from a bank. I was a bit suspicious, because I didn't know why Bell would refund me cash, when I owe money on my account. I didn't hit the link but copied and pasted it and it did still look like an etransfer from Bell until I went into Bell to see if I got the money and noticed that part of the link which on the real Bell was '.bell.' and on the phoney one it was .bel. This spam would have had my bank information because it takes you straight to your bank. Please if you get a text or email supposedly giving you a refund from a company, QUESTION IT AND DO NOT ACCEPT THE MONEY.

There are so many scams going on, more now then ever.

Phone calls claiming to be on a secured recorded line from social security, banks. Text messages and emails claiming to be your bank, I've gotten several email's from banks I don't even bank with.

I now don't answer my phone unless I'm waiting for a call (was waiting for a repair person and number would not be in my contacts). I now get at least 7 calls a day. Quite annoying.

I'm just wondering how you knew the link would take you directly to your bank, hoping you didn't even click on that, even if you would have then had to log into your account.

There are still many getting caught up in these scams, best to just delete any email's or text messages and not answer phone.

I too received the same. I know Bell would not refund this money, they would simply apply the amount to next month's invoice. Just another scam.

I use etransfer all the time. When you click on the link it takes you to a list of banks and you choose yours which if you do online banking, you sign in. They are then in your account and have your password and could do what they want.

Just don't go for these scams. My husand got one on his phone from our country's post office, the letter head looked authentic, saying that he had won a phone. He checked it out and when they wanted more information from him he stopped. Now he's getting messages from Swiss, the airline here, to pick up a package from an airport terminal that doesn't exsist. They waited two days and have now changed the terminal number. I hope that they will give up soon. Of course, they want additional information. What a nasty thing to do to other people.

Glad you questioned the email and thank you for warning all of us. I recently had a call from Social Security saying my account had been compromised. I didn't finish listening to it--just hung up. I remember hearing on the news that if there was a problem with my Medicare or SS, they would notify my by mail.

On 09/05/2019 I got the following text :
UBER: We mistakenly overcharged your last ride. We sincerely apologize for this mistake. Please accept your money:http://157.245.137.240.

Right! I do not have the Uber app. and have only twice been in a Uber vehicle and someone else was paying. Nice dumb try!!

Major companies will credit your existing account...they do not email you. If anything you would get as letter in the mail.
Don't trust anything that comes as an email, asking you for any action or information.

I love the ones that call from your land line to your land line telling you to change your license key and IP address cuz it's compromised in many countries. Can't call your own land line and only cable supplier can change those (and only if you cancel your account then restart it up again after a waiting period). They tell you it needs to be done within 48 hrs and we've been getting a dozen calls a day for over two weeks now!

Certainly, they are probably the ones who need it most (I am a senior by the way)

The saddest part of all of these rotten things.. if they weren't making money they wouldn't be happening. Absolutely do not click links in email, go to your account on your own. Want to know how suspicious I have gotten through the years? I got a refund check saying I had over paid a doctor $66.29 no info on which appointment doctor or anything. I did deposit the check it was accepted by the bank but I still expect a bill for 120.00 from somewhere saying it hadn't been paid!!
