Thank you, Val... It's a free pattern! It's here:
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/us/pattern.php?id=4098&lang=us

If you look it up on Ravelry, you will be able to see many of them that people have knit:

Well, if we could get you to try knitting Continental style, you would be fine on the circular.

Actually, it's on a circ but it's not knit circularly. It's knit back and forth. So you could use a long straight needle.

What a dear...

Hey Barb, I love your lace and color too! What are all the markers for? Surely you aren't going to have that many buttons?

All you Sweater Girls: One of the hardest parts of the sweater is the finishing details. It makes or breaks it... Don't know if I've mentioned this, but when you have to work around an edge to pick up sts, or even like with the crochet that Barb did, there is a way to control it so you get an even pick up (stitch count). You take the edge and fold it in half and put a marker at the fold (on the edge where you will pick up or crochet). Then you take each half and fold them and mark the quarters. Then you can half those quarters and mark the eights... and so forth, sectioning down as small as you want. Then, if the pattern says pick up 100 along that edge, you know you have to find 25 to pick up in each marked quarter, or 12-13 in each eight. It makes it so much easier than just picking up along a long edge and hoping the other side comes out the same (it won't.)

You also have to find the right amount to pick up on your own (regardless of what number the pattern gives you.) Your garment may have come out shorter or longer, so you need to find your own number. With stockinette, you will pick up stitch for stitch along horizontal edges, and pick up only 3 sts for every 4 rows along vertical edges. It's a tiny bit different for garter, start with the 3/4 ratio and see if it works, and adjust if it doesn't.

And then there's the 'eyeball factor'. You may have picked up what you thought was right, and matched it in each section, but your eye tells you it's too many because the edging or band ruffles, or it's too few because they pull up... In that case you want to NOTE what kind of change you need to make, and then rip and re-do. Don't rip before you figure it out, or you will be doomed to repeat a mistake. That edging can take some experimentation before you get it just right.

Hang in there, you Sweater Girls are both SO CLOSE to being done and having a pretty sweater to wear... :D :D :D

And you MADE IT YOURSELF!!

Oh I wish I knew this before I did that edge. I don't like the edge at all.

and I was gonna put that many buttons on, but I can change that since I need to redo the edge.
