I haven't done a swatch yet but it appears to be a ridge of garter stitch with ribbing in the middle as it is over an even number of stitches. Might be interesting to try it, also, on an uneven number of stitches, then you would get a different effect in the middle.
I have a feeling I have done this stitch in the distant past but not with that name.

This will be my next project for an afghan for one of my three late teen grandnephews, as it's not girly. I will add a seed stitch border around it, which I think will set if off nicely.
