I decided to take this http://foldi-knit.blogspot.com/2012/06/panna-frost-flower-free-shawl-pattern.htmlproject on but now I'm stuck in frustration mode because I can't seem to get the tension right.

I accidentally bought a 80% acrylic and 20% mohair blend for this project instead of what was listed on the pattern. Does the blend of the yarn add to my problem? I honestly don't think that the yarn is faulty I think my hands are to blame but how can I improve the tension?

I read somewhere that acrylic eventually straightens itself after washing so does that mean that the stitches will look better and that I should just knit on?

Well, since the suggested yarn is 80% mohair, I doubt that using only 20% mohair is the problem. In theory, blocking cures a multitude of ills, like uneven tension. I admit to not having blocked anything ... yet.

For what it's worth, uneven tensioning will not detract from the finished scarf's warmth and softness. I'd just keep on, but that's me. My tension is always wonky, as well as too tight.

Thanks for posting the pattern link; it's added to my to-do list.

One hint I can give - make both halves at one time; it's how I did a lace scarf that was designed the same way. I just find it easier to work the same series of pattern directions two-at-a-time than to come back and do them at a later time.

Isn't a beautiful shawl/scarf? This is the first time I'm venturing on to a different fiber and weight since I've always used DK - Worsted wool blend so I really appreciate your feedback.

I've spent hours creating swatches and I've started over and over because I was being too obsessive compulsive with the stitches. I'll try to relax and see the bigger picture because you're right, unevenness doesn't necessarily affect the function of the scarf.

Oh, well... Mohair is hairy enough, so I don't think it will show much - if there are some uneven stitches, I mean.

The pictures with the pattern look very uneven until it is blocked.I think that if you have a fingering weight yarn, you should keep going and block it later. It is a beautiful design. Good luck with your project!

its sure a pretty shawl.. I went in circles trying to find the pattern but I guess my security level on my computer is not letting me.. I did see where the person posted before blocking and after blocking photos so I am sure that your scarf will look beautiful after you block it...
