Just out of curiosity I called a friend who happens to be a Baptist minister in another church. He told me that the one at the church in question advises the men in his congregation to rule their households with "a raised fist" , his words. Probably part of the same group I had a problem with at work some years back. A Baptist minister that was a regular customer happened to notice the Star of David I wore around my neck and started screaming at me that I needed to drop to my knees and kiss his feet and beg for forgiveness so I could be saved. He knew that if I said anything I would be fired for talking back to a customer.... isn't such open mindedness beautiful? LOL

Rule with a "raised fist"?? Our congregation had a minister like that. He also preached a lot of other Old Testament prohibitions that we now see as violating the civil rights of our fellow citizens. We got fed up with the hatred spewing from him, gave him 3 months salary and set him packing. We lost a few members and gained even more. It was like we moved from the moldy dungeon into the sunshine.
Adding: Good job for holding your tongue and not kicking that minister customer in the balls. What an ass.

I don't particularly agree with this sign, but I don't find it offensive. I think too many people are "offended" by inconsequential stuff. The world is not always going to conform to your standards, nor should it have to. As long as you're not a member of that congregation, I don't see a problem. Get over it and move on.

Why are you offended? I do not like the sign however you cannot have it both ways. You cannot have free speech and then tell people what that can
think and say. If it offends you then just keep your eyes on the road and do not look at it.

I find it offensive to all women. He does have the right to say it, I never said that he didn't. A person has the right to stand on a street corner and call out the"N" word as well. I am sure most would find that offensive.
Unfortunately the sign is a few feet from the church's hidden driveway on a road with a 55MPH speed limit. It's hard to not notice the sign when checking for cars but I try my best. Of course, my grandson who is frequently in the car with me feels the need to read all the marques out loud. Usually they are funny due to letters falling out. Here in the Bible belt I pass 14 churches on my 11 mile trek to the library.

It is PART of a Bible verse. When you read part of something it can mean something else. I don't recall the rest of it, and not going to look it up. If I were so terrible offended I would just not look at it. In my younger days if I were so offended I 'might have put a rock through it'. or might not, depending how I felt.

BWAAA HAAA HAA! Maybe the pastor is having problems with his "upitty" wife! I find signs like these HILARIOUS and certainly don't take offense. The " Free Will" bit is the cherry on top. I drive by a church with " Liberty" incongruously included in the title that also puts up boards like this. I just laugh and flip 'em the bird as I drive by! I mean, if that's the way they want to live, let them. I don't see anything offensive.....just pure gold comedic material!

I think it was Paul who wrote it in a letter, he was known for not liking women. His opinion does not a commandment make. :sm23:

I just need some opinions from around the world. This is the sign that has been posted outside of a church I drive by. The sign has been posted for over a year, once in a while they will put up something else for a week or two then revert to this. I have to pass this church on my way to town and back every time I go out. because of the rural area, the only way to avoid it is to go north into KY then around to the interstate, adding over 20 miles to my trip.
I am deeply offended by the sign, the first time I saw it I was so upset that I was shaking. A young man who works at the library told me that he called the church to complain and was hung up on.

Please note the name of the church as well.

This is always taken out of context. The husband is ordered to love his wife as he would love himself and to cherish her. I wish people would not use only half the commands. It is a terrible testimony and witness to everyone who sees this. What a shame.

If people that go there are not bother nether will I.
In my religion it says for the women to obey you husband .....but it also says for the husband to leave his family and be one with his wife .
It says for him to love his wife as Jesus loved the church .
You see in this country you have choices.
I do have enought at home to deal with ....

WOW. Begging forgiveness for being of the same faith as the man he believes is the Messiah & his Savior? I'm 65 & was taught in 7th grade by a holy priest that Judaism is our faith's parent & as such needs to be understood, loved & respected. Father Reis spent that year teaching us with his philosophy that if you don't understand that faith, it's history & the culture & time Jesus lived in, you can't understand what he is saying & therefore can't deepen your own belief. God bless you for holding your tongue. I'm sorry that happened to you.
