I made this baby jacket with 2 strands of sock yarn held together. Using a US size 6 needle this gave me a gauge of 5.5 stitches per inch. Since I had 2 strands of yarn throughout, I worked all increases by simply knitting both strands separately at the appropriate places rather than using a kf&b or m1 increase.
The ruffle was made by doubling the stitches (knitting both strands) in rows 95 and 96 along the entire length of the rows except for the stitches that form the side where the buttons are placed. I picked up stitches around the neck and on the sleeve cuffs to add ruffles there as well. This adorable creation ( http://www.knittingparadise.com/t-16693-1.html ) was my inspiration for the ruffle. The leaf buttons are from JoAnns (adorable, but rather difficult to maneuver through the buttonholes).
The yarn is Premier Yarns Serenity Sock Weight in color Chili. The pattern is available for purchase from Schoolhouse Press: http://www.schoolhousepress.com/patterns.htm . There are more pictures and info on my Ravelry project post: http://ravel.me/takdpm/bsj4
